A woman entrepreneur was detained by police in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, after criticizing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government and its supporters during a Facebook Live broadcast, according to local media reports.
Sathi Akter, owner of Sathi Beauty Parlour in the Square Masterbari area, was taken into police custody on Sunday night, October 25, 2026, after local residents reportedly handed her over to law enforcement.
Earlier that afternoon, Akter went live on Facebook through an account named “Sathi Makeover” to express frustration over a series of thefts targeting her businesses and home.
She said electrical wires, air-conditioning cables and valuable household items had been stolen from her two showrooms, nearby shops and residence, causing significant financial losses.
Expressing concern over business security and the country’s law-and-order situation, Akter also voiced regret over her voting decision and criticized the BNP government.
Her comments subsequently spread across social media, reportedly triggering anger among local BNP activists. That night, political activists and residents visited her beauty parlour to question her about the broadcast. Police were called amid rising tensions and concerns that the establishment could be vandalized.
Bhaluka Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Islam said officers quickly arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. He suggested that her criticism during the Facebook Live broadcast may have fueled local tensions.
The police officer acknowledged that people have the right to freedom of expression and criticism but said Akter was taken into custody to prevent further escalation.
Legal proceedings were reportedly underway, while police said the situation in the area had returned to normal.
