Trump Insults Norway After Failing to Win Nobel Peace Prize

US President Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of Norway after failing to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, referring to the European country in vulgar terms and suggesting that Norwegian immigrants would not be welcome in the United States.

Trump made the remarks on Sunday during a political rally in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of next week’s midterm elections. Blaming immigration for recent unrest in France, he said he would welcome immigrants from certain countries but not from Norway because he had not received the Nobel Prize.

“I don’t want anybody from Norway,” Trump said, linking his position to the decision not to award him the prestigious peace prize.

He also described Norway as a “shithole country,” a derogatory expression he has previously used when referring to Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

However, there has been no indication that the Trump administration is introducing a new official immigration policy specifically targeting Norwegian nationals.

Norway is among the world’s wealthiest countries by gross domestic product per capita, according to International Monetary Fund data. Its sovereign wealth fund also reported a record profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian kroner, equivalent to approximately $184.3 billion, in the first half of 2026, according to the supplied report.

Norway’s Foreign Ministry and a representative of the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.

Earlier this month, Trump had described the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize as an enduring disgrace for Norway.

The Nobel Peace Prize selection process is conducted by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, an independent body, rather than by the Norwegian government. Trump’s latest remarks have renewed attention to the distinction between the committee’s decisions and Norway’s broader national and diplomatic interests.
