Azizul Haque Islamabadi confirmed his participation, saying he would depart for Japan aboard a special Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday. He is expected to return to Bangladesh on October 29.

The prime minister’s delegation includes his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman; Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury; Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir; State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir; State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit; Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Rehan Asif Asad; Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Chairman Ashik Chowdhury; and the prime minister’s special assistant, Md. On Tuesday, October 27, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with Japan’s prime minister in Tokyo. Discussions are expected to focus on reviewing existing cooperation and expanding economic ties between the two countries.

The Bangladesh prime minister is also scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Forum and meet Japanese business leaders.

Other potential engagements include meetings with senior officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.

The itinerary may also include visits to an LNG terminal, a power plant, Uniqlo’s headquarters and a Toyota factory.

Increasing Japanese investment in Bangladesh, creating employment opportunities and accelerating ongoing development projects are among the key objectives of the visit. The implementation of the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, signed in February 2026, is also expected to receive attention.

According to sources at Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two countries may sign memorandums of understanding or announce new areas of cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, skills development, trade, environmental protection and the modernization of local government systems.

Regional and international issues, including the Rohingya crisis, energy security, and regional and global peace and stability, may also feature in discussions during the visit.
