Against All Odds, Rabbi Achieves Back-to-Back GPA-5 Results

A remarkable story of determination and perseverance has emerged from Sitakunda, Chattogram, where a student who lost both his arms in a childhood electrical accident has achieved GPA-5 in both his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations.

Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Rabbi, a resident of Bhatiari Union in Sitakunda, lost both his arms after being electrocuted on October 5, 2016. At the time, he was only a fifth-grade student. The accident happened when he came into contact with an exposed electrical wire on a footbridge while returning home from school.

His injuries were so severe that doctors had to amputate both arms to save his life. The incident left his family uncertain about whether he would ever be able to continue his education.

But Rabbi refused to give up on his dreams.

Determined to return to school, he initially learned to hold a pen with his mouth and continued writing that way until Class Eight. Later, he developed the ability to write using his feet, allowing him to complete his studies more comfortably and efficiently.

His hard work paid off in 2024 when he earned a GPA-5 in the SSC examination from Haji Tobarak Ali High School in Bhatiari.

He then enrolled in the science department at Chattogram Government Model School and College. Continuing his remarkable academic journey, Rabbi has now secured another GPA-5 in the 2026 HSC examination, the results of which were published on Saturday, October 31.

Speaking about his achievement, Rabbi expressed gratitude to his parents, teachers and everyone who supported him throughout his educational journey.

He now hopes to pursue higher education in science, with the University of Chittagong among his preferred choices. His ultimate ambition is to become a scientist.

His father, Bazlur Rahman, expressed immense happiness over his son’s success. He recalled how the family had feared that Rabbi might never be able to continue his education after losing both arms. However, his determination, combined with the support of his family, helped him overcome those challenges.

Rabbi’s sister, Rokaiya Akter Rowza, also appeared in this year’s HSC examination from the commerce department at Bhatiari Bijoy Smarani College and successfully passed.

His achievement has also drawn admiration from local residents. Former Bhatiari Union chairman Nurul Anwar praised Rabbi’s determination and confidence, expressing hope that he would achieve even greater success in the future.

With two consecutive GPA-5 results behind him, Rabbi is now preparing for university admission. His journey is a powerful reminder that physical limitations do not have to define a person’s future when determination, courage and the right support come together.
