Police Complete Investigation Into Apratim Murder in 31 Days, Four Accused Named

Police have completed their investigation into the killing of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Apratim in Cumilla within 31 days, with four people accused in connection with the case.

Apratim, a seventh-grade student at Border Guard Public School in Cumilla, was reported missing on September 18, 2026, after leaving his home in the Kotbari area. His body was recovered the following day from a secluded, wooded area near Lalmai Hill in Sananda village, under Cumilla’s Sadar South upazila.

According to investigators, the murder was allegedly motivated by an attempt to steal the iPhone the boy had with him. Police said four individuals were identified and arrested in connection with the crime.

Three of the accused reportedly gave confessional statements before a court, while the fourth did not confess. The accused include both adults and minors, with the two underage suspects sent to a juvenile development centre under court orders.

The investigation involved examining CCTV footage, gathering evidence and questioning the suspects to establish the circumstances surrounding Apratim’s death.

On October 17, Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman said the investigation was nearing completion and that the charge sheet was expected to be submitted to the court within two to three days.

The case drew widespread public attention because of the victim’s young age and the circumstances of his death. The completion of the investigation marks an important step toward the next stage of the legal process.

The accused will face further proceedings through the courts, where the evidence will be examined in accordance with the law.
