The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed former national team captain Mohammad Ashraful from his position as the national team’s batting coach, announcing the decision just hours after he conducted a training session with batters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium academy ground in Mirpur on Saturday.
Ashraful was seen working with Bangladesh batters, including Najmul Hossain and Shadman Islam, during the morning session on October 24. However, later that night, the BCB confirmed that he would no longer serve as the team’s batting coach.
The board has decided to assign Ashraful to another role within its structure, although the details of his new position have not yet been disclosed.
In an official press release issued on Saturday, the BCB announced the change and thanked Ashraful for his work and contributions to the national team.
Salahuddin to Take Interim Charge
Until a permanent batting coach is appointed, Mohammad Salahuddin, head coach of the BCB’s High Performance department, will oversee the national team’s batting unit on an interim basis.
Salahuddin is an experienced figure in Bangladesh cricket and has previously worked with the national team coaching staff. Between 2006 and 2010, he served as assistant coach and fielding coach under former head coaches Dav Whatmore and Jamie Siddons.
In November 2024, he returned to the national setup after being appointed senior assistant coach of the Bangladesh national team. His latest assignment will see him temporarily take responsibility for the batting department while the board considers a permanent replacement.
Ashraful’s Tenure as Batting Coach
Ashraful had been serving as Bangladesh’s national batting coach since November 2025. The former captain’s appointment brought him into a coaching role with the national side after his career as an international cricketer.
Although the BCB has confirmed his removal from the batting coach position, it has not publicly explained the reasons behind the decision. The board has also yet to announce when a permanent replacement will be appointed.
Salahuddin’s Domestic Coaching Record
Salahuddin has built a strong reputation in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket circuit, coaching several teams in the Dhaka Premier League and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
He achieved considerable success with Comilla Victorians, guiding the franchise to multiple BPL titles. He has also coached teams including Sylhet Royals, Chittagong Vikings and Dhaka Platoon in the country’s franchise-based T20 competition.
His experience with both domestic teams and the national setup is expected to be valuable as he takes temporary charge of Bangladesh’s batting department.
For now, Salahuddin will oversee the batters while the BCB determines Ashraful’s next assignment and makes a decision on the team’s permanent batting coach.
