Madrasa Teacher Accused of Attempted Rape, Student Alleges Repeated Abuse

A madrasa teacher has been detained in Pabna district following allegations that he attempted to rape a female student at a women’s Qawmi madrasa. The incident triggered public anger, with local residents allegedly vandalising and setting fire to the madrasa and the accused teacher’s residence.

The accused, Abu Yusuf, was the director of Nure Madina Women’s Qawmi Madrasa in Daribhau Danga village under Bharara Union in Pabna Sadar upazila. The institution has around 150 female students.

According to local sources, the incident occurred early Thursday morning, October 23, when a student left her room to use the toilet before the Fajr prayer. The teacher allegedly forced her into a room and attempted to sexually assault her.

Hearing the student’s screams, local residents rushed to the scene. The accused reportedly tried to flee but was detained by residents, who subsequently handed him over to the police.

The student further alleged that she had previously been drugged and sexually assaulted multiple times. She claimed that the accused used an anaesthetic substance to render her unconscious and gave her contraceptive pills after the alleged assaults. She also alleged that other students had experienced similar incidents and that threats were made to prevent them from disclosing the alleged abuse.

Following news of the incident, angry residents reportedly vandalised and set fire to the madrasa and the house where the accused lived.

The report also noted that the accused had previously faced allegations of killing his wife in connection with an alleged extramarital relationship.

Sanjay Kumar Saha, an investigation officer at Pabna Sadar Police Station, confirmed that the accused had been detained. Police were in the process of filing a case over the alleged attempted rape.

The allegations have not been established in court, and the investigation is ongoing.
