Pay Rent to Criminal Imon Armed Gang Attacks Courier Service Headquarters in Dhaka

Masked Gang Storms Dhaka Courier Warehouse, Demands Rent for Top Criminal Imon

A group of more than 100 masked men allegedly stormed the headquarters and central warehouse of AJR Courier Service in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area on Tuesday evening, vandalizing the premises and looting laptops and other valuables while demanding that the company pay rent to notorious criminal Sanjidul Islam Imon.

The attack took place around 6:30 pm near Shikder Medical College, according to a report by The Daily Ittefaq. Hazaribagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the incident.

Witnesses and company officials said the attackers arrived wearing helmets and masks before disabling surveillance camera connections in nearby buildings. They then climbed over the boundary wall, threatened security guards at gunpoint and forced their way into the office and warehouse.

The group allegedly smashed office furniture, stole several laptops and other goods worth hundreds of thousands of taka, and removed CCTV cameras and the digital video recorder (DVR), apparently to eliminate recorded evidence of the raid.

Company officials said AJR Courier Service had been operating from the premises for nearly two years after renting the land through a legal agreement with the Shikder Group. The company had been regularly paying rent to the landowner under the agreement.

However, the attackers reportedly claimed that an understanding had been reached with the owner of the Shikder Group and insisted that future rent must be paid to Imon instead. They also threatened to prevent the company from continuing its operations if the demand was not met.

The warehouse and office serve as a major operational hub for the courier company, with around 400 vehicles reportedly moving goods across the country every day. Following the attack, the company’s overall operations came to a complete halt.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving an emergency call through Bangladesh’s national emergency service, 999. According to the officer-in-charge, preliminary information suggests that a criminal group used Imon’s name while carrying out the attack and issuing threats.

Police said the incident was being investigated seriously and that those responsible would be brought to justice.
