Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Renews Call for an Independent Palestine

Mexico Reaffirms Support for an Independent Palestinian State

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has reiterated her government’s support for Palestinian statehood, emphasizing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution.

According to the Mexican government’s stated position, lasting peace in the Middle East requires negotiations that recognize the sovereignty and equal standing of both Israel and Palestine. The policy reflects Mexico’s longstanding emphasis on peaceful dispute resolution, international law and respect for the rights of peoples.

On September 22, 2025, Sheinbaum said her government had formally accepted the credentials of Nadia Rasheed as Palestine’s ambassador. The step marked an important development in Palestine’s diplomatic representation in Mexico.

Sheinbaum has also stressed the importance of recognizing both Israel and Palestine as states and ending attacks against civilians. Mexico maintains that a lasting settlement must involve both sides in meaningful negotiations.

In February 2026, Mexico was invited to join a proposed Board of Peace for Gaza as a founding member but opted to participate as an observer rather than a full member, according to the report.

Mexico’s renewed statement highlights its continued support for a two-state solution, with the government advocating dialogue and international cooperation as the basis for achieving a lasting peace in the region.
