Iran Prepares to Unveil ‘Father of All Bombs’ Amid Rising Tensions With US
Iran is preparing to unveil a new weapon it has dubbed the “Father of All Bombs,” according to a spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to rise.
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi announced on Wednesday that preparations were underway to introduce the weapon, describing it as something new for Iran’s adversaries. However, he did not disclose its technical specifications, explain exactly what type of weapon it is, or provide a date for its unveiling.
The announcement comes amid reports that the United States is considering the possible use of its GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), commonly known as the “Mother of All Bombs,” in potential strikes against Iranian targets.
The American weapon weighs approximately 9,800 kilograms and is one of the largest non-nuclear bombs in the US arsenal. It was first used in combat in Afghanistan in April 2017, when American forces targeted an Islamic State-linked tunnel complex.
Mohebi also claimed that Iran’s missile stockpile had increased by 50% following the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel in June 2025. He said the country had improved its missiles’ range, accuracy and destructive power, although he provided no independent evidence or detailed figures to support those claims.
The announcement appears intended to signal Iran’s military preparedness amid the growing threat of further confrontation. However, without details or an independently assessed demonstration, the capabilities of the proposed weapon remain unclear.
The development adds another dimension to the escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, with both sides making increasingly forceful statements about their military capabilities.
Whether Iran’s newly announced weapon will significantly alter the military balance remains uncertain until more information becomes available.
