Trump Expects to Meet Tarique Rahman Soon
DHAKA — US President Donald Trump has expressed hope of meeting Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in person in the near future, saying he believes Bangladesh and its people have a “very bright future” under his leadership.
Trump conveyed the expectation in a letter sent to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday, August 31. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), citing the prime minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, Trump also conveyed his warmest regards and affection to the people of Bangladesh.
In the letter, Trump said that despite the many challenges Bangladesh and its people have faced, he firmly believes the country has a bright future under Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
“I look forward to meeting you in the not too distant future,” Trump wrote, expressing his desire for a direct meeting with the Bangladeshi prime minister.
The US president also thanked Tarique Rahman for Bangladesh’s decision to purchase Boeing aircraft from the United States. Trump assured the prime minister that Boeing would not disappoint Bangladesh and said he would remember Tarique’s personal attention to the matter.
“I just received your letter concerning the purchase of Boeing Aircraft, and very much appreciate your decision of purchase. Boeing will not let you down, and I will not forget,” Trump wrote.
Trump’s comments come amid growing economic engagement between Bangladesh and the United States, particularly in the aviation sector. Bangladesh’s state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed an agreement with Boeing in April to purchase 14 aircraft as part of its fleet expansion programme.
The letter also reflects continued efforts to strengthen Bangladesh-US relations. Earlier this year, Tarique Rahman wrote to Trump on the occasion of the United States’ 250th Independence Day, pledging to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defence and other areas of mutual interest.
Trump’s latest message signals a continued interest in closer engagement with Dhaka and sets the stage for a possible meeting between the two leaders in the near future.
