Child thrown into river after mother’s rape and murder.

In Shibchar of Madaripur, police recovered the floating body of one-year-old Abir, five days after his mother, Shampa Akter, 22, was allegedly raped and murdered and her body dumped.
The child’s body was recovered from the Arial Khan River on Monday morning, August 24.
Local residents said they spotted the body floating near a madrasa ghat close to Mannan Haji’s intersection in the Nilkhi area. After being informed, police from Shibchar Police Station and the river police went to the scene and recovered the body. Following an inquest, it was sent to the Madaripur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Earlier, on the morning of August 19, police recovered Shampa Akter’s body from beside a bush near a field in the Bakherkandi area of Madarborchar Union in Shibchar. Shampa was the daughter of Samrul Islam of Lalpur in Natore. She had married Md. Shahabuddin Howlader of Boro Meher in Madaripur about three years ago.
On August 20, Shampa’s father, Samrul Islam, filed a murder case with Shibchar Police Station. Following the case, a joint team of police and RAB-8 arrested the accused, Faruk Molla.
Police said Faruk Molla confessed during interrogation to raping and killing Shampa and then killing her infant son Abir before dumping his body into the Arial Khan River.
Shibchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamal Hossain said the child’s body was recovered from the river and sent to the morgue, while legal proceedings are underway.
