Parliament Session: Gatherings and Meetings Banned in Various Areas of Dhaka

To ensure the smooth conduct of the third session of the 13th National Parliament, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned meetings, rallies, processions, marches and demonstrations in various areas of Dhaka.

The restriction will come into effect from midnight on Wednesday and remain in place until the parliamentary session ends, according to a public notice.

In the notice signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Monday, the police said the restrictions were imposed to maintain law and order in and around the National Parliament complex and ensure the session, which begins Thursday, proceeds without disruption. The ban prohibits the carrying of weapons, explosives, hazardous or polluting substances, as well as all forms of gatherings, rallies, processions, marches and demonstrations within the designated areas.

The restricted areas include the stretch from the Mohakhali Crossing on Mymensingh Road through the Old Airport to Banglamotor Crossing; from the western end of Banglamotor Link Road to the SARC Fountain on Hotel Sonargaon Road; and from the eastern end of Panthapath through the Green Road intersection to Farmgate.

The restrictions also cover the area from Shyamoli Mor on Mirpur Road to the intersection with Dhanmondi Road No. 16 (formerly Road No. 27), from the Rokeya Sarani intersection through the Old Ninth Division (Uttara Jahaj) Crossing to Bijoy Sarani Parjatan Crossing, from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue, as well as the restricted area of the National Parliament complex.

All roads and alleys located within these boundaries will also fall under the restrictions.
