Identities of 10 Victims Killed in Inani Resort Fire Confirmed, Teacher Still Missing

Authorities have identified all 10 people who died in a devastating fire at TupTup Resort and Restaurant in Inani, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, through DNA testing. However, Nasrin Akter Mukta, a schoolteacher from Ashulia in Savar, Dhaka, remains unaccounted for.

Rimon Ghosh, the investigating officer in the case, said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted DNA tests on samples collected from the badly burned bodies and matched them with samples provided by relatives to establish the victims’ identities.

Among those identified were Faria Kabir, 35, from Chuadanga, and her five-year-old son, Faizan. Faria’s younger brother, Nafiz Tehami Jerif, a student in the Chinese Language and Culture Department at the University of Dhaka, was also among the victims.

Three daughters of Mohammad Selim, a resident of the Khilgaon-Mugda area of Dhaka, were identified as well. They were Israt Jahan Maliha, 30; Laila Jahan Nabila, a student in the Chemistry Department at Jagannath University; and Melita Mehezabin Alvi, a student at East West University.

The other victims were identified as Nahidur Rahman Tuhin, his wife Afsana Akter, and their two young children, Robaina Akter and Sunaina Akter. The family hailed from Mohanpur village in Manirampur upazila of Jashore.

Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman confirmed that authorities had received the DNA test results and informed the victims’ families. The bodies were scheduled to be handed over to relatives on Tuesday.

The fire broke out on the morning of October 17 at the three-storey TupTup Resort near Patuartek Beach in Ukhiya, approximately 28 kilometres from Cox’s Bazar town. Rescue teams later recovered 10 bodies from the site.

Eleven people had initially been listed as missing following the incident. While DNA testing has confirmed the identities of the 10 deceased, the whereabouts of schoolteacher Nasrin Akter Mukta remain unknown.

Authorities continue to face questions surrounding the tragedy as families await further information about the missing teacher.
