Father of Alleged Child Abuse Victim Leaves Bangladesh Amid Legal Dispute

Shahjalal Rumi, the father of a seven-year-old child who was allegedly sexually abused at a cadet madrasa in Tongi, Gazipur, has reportedly left Bangladesh following a legal dispute involving the institution’s principal.

Rumi confirmed his departure in a text message to the media on Monday night, October 26. He did not disclose which country he had travelled to.

“I am no longer in this country. I am not thinking about these matters anymore. Whatever happens, happens. You all stay well,” he wrote in the message.

He also expressed frustration with the principal of Qariul Quran International Cadet Madrasa, accusing him of making repeated false statements.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 21 at the madrasa in the Auchpara area of Tongi. According to the report, Rumi confronted the teacher accused of abusing his child, Mohammad Moslem Uddin, and handed him over to police after an alleged assault. A video of the incident subsequently circulated on social media, triggering widespread public discussion.

Rumi later filed a sexual abuse case at Tongi West Police Station against the accused teacher.

However, the madrasa principal’s side subsequently filed a counter-case against Rumi, accusing him of several offences, including the alleged theft of Tk 1.7 million (17 lakh). Following the filing of the counter-case, Rumi reportedly went out of public view.

His reported departure from Bangladesh has now drawn further attention to the dispute surrounding the original allegation and the subsequent legal proceedings.

The allegations in both cases remain matters for investigation and judicial determination.
