Saudi Expat Pays Tk 5,000 to Bangladesh Railway to Settle Past Ticketless Travel

A Bangladeshi expatriate has set an example of personal accountability by paying Tk 5,000 to Bangladesh Railway for journeys he had previously taken without tickets.

Mohammad Habibur Rahman, a resident of Radhika in Sultanpur Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar, had spent many years working in Saudi Arabia. Driven by a sense of personal responsibility over his past actions, he decided to repay the railway fare he had avoided paying.

On Monday, October 26, 2026, his nephew visited Brahmanbaria Railway Station on his behalf and deposited Tk 5,000 into the railway’s revenue account.

According to Kabir Hossain Talukder, the station’s chief booking assistant, Habibur Rahman had travelled by train without purchasing tickets on an earlier occasion. He later regretted his actions and decided to settle the outstanding amount.

Talukder confirmed that the money was deposited with the railway authorities and welcomed the initiative, describing it as an example of honesty and moral responsibility.

He said that recognizing past mistakes and taking steps to correct them reflect genuine integrity. He also expressed hope that the incident would encourage other passengers to act responsibly and pay the appropriate fares.

The unusual gesture has drawn attention as a reminder that accountability can begin with a simple decision to make amends for past mistakes.
