Microsoft has introduced a voluntary departure program offering financial benefits to eligible employees across several countries, giving thousands of workers the option to leave the company under a structured exit arrangement.
The initiative, known as the “Voluntary Exit Offer,” was launched on Monday, October 26, 2026. It is expected to cover selected employees in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and India.
According to reports, eligible staff members will receive details of the offer through email. The program covers certain roles in Microsoft’s AI Experiences, Copilot, finance, human resources, Xbox, and Windows and Devices divisions.
However, the offer will not be available to everyone. Some employees in marketing, commercial business and securities-related operations are reportedly excluded, while certain positions in data centers and sales may also fall outside the program.
Employees who accept the offer will receive financial compensation similar to a severance package. The arrangement is intended to provide eligible workers with financial support as they leave the company and transition to their next career opportunity.
The exact amount of compensation has not yet been publicly disclosed. Benefits may vary depending on factors such as an employee’s length of service, job position and the employment regulations applicable in each country.
The move comes as major technology companies continue to adjust their workforces amid changing business priorities and the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence.
For eligible Microsoft employees, the voluntary exit program could provide an alternative to remaining in their current roles, although the final decision will depend on individual circumstances and the terms offered by the company.
