Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman Arrives in Saidpur to Visit Durga Puja Mandaps Across Three Divisions

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived at Saidpur Airport in Nilphamari on Tuesday morning to visit Durga Puja mandaps in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Chattogram as part of his Maha Navami celebrations.

He landed at around 9:50 am on October 20 aboard a military aircraft after departing from Tejgaon Airport in Dhaka at 9:00 am.

Senior government officials, including Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, Rangpur City Corporation Administrator Mahfuz Un Nabi Don and other regional officials, welcomed the prime minister at the airport.

Following the airport formalities, Tarique Rahman was scheduled to travel by road to Rangpur, where he would visit the puja mandap at the historic Radha Gobinda Temple and exchange greetings with Hindu devotees.

His itinerary includes visits to religious festival venues in three divisions in a single day. After completing his Rangpur programme, he is scheduled to travel to Rajshahi to visit the puja mandap at Dharmasabha Temple and address a public gathering at the Haji Muhammad Mohsin Government High School field.

The prime minister is then expected to travel to Chattogram to visit the Durga Puja mandap at JM Sen Hall in Rahmatganj before returning to Dhaka on Tuesday night.

The visits are intended to convey greetings to members of the Hindu community during Durga Puja, one of the country’s largest religious festivals.

According to officials, this is the first time a serving Bangladeshi prime minister has undertaken an out-of-Dhaka visit to Durga Puja mandaps across multiple divisions during the festival.

The government has said it has taken measures to ensure the celebrations proceed peacefully, with security arrangements and support for puja mandaps across the country.
