Travelers moving along the remote stretches of Cox’s Bazar recently faced a terrifying ordeal when a group of armed criminals blocked the road in broad daylight. Operating in multiple waves during the afternoon, masked men targeted roughly fifty different vehicles, leaving passengers stranded in a wave of fear.
According to local accounts, the attackers wielded weapons to hold commuters hostage, stripping them of cash, smartphones, and other valuables. Some victims shared that they were dragged toward the nearby woods and beaten after failing to meet immediate demands. A few NGO workers recounted losing substantial sums of money intended for official purposes while simply trying to commute through the hilly route.
Local authorities noted that this particular seventeen-kilometer stretch passing through the hills of Ramu and Eidgah has long battled security challenges, frequently forcing restrictions on travel after dark. Following the incident, law enforcement units rushed to the spot and launched multiple drives to track down the culprits, though security concerns among locals remain high.
