Tk 1.29 Crore Spent by RUCSU, Vouchers Missing for Tk 61.5 Lakh

The current executive committee of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) has spent Tk 1 crore 29 lakh 14 thousand 689 on 42 programmes over the past 10 months. However, bills or vouchers for Tk 61 lakh 50 thousand 468 have not yet been submitted, raising concerns over possible financial irregularities.

The information was revealed through an analysis of documents from the RUCSU treasurer’s office.

GS fails to submit vouchers for Tk 18.39 lakh

General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar was the biggest spender, receiving Tk 23.88 lakh in seven installments. He has yet to submit vouchers for Tk 18.39 lakh.

Ammar said difficulties in adjusting some expenses, including VAT-related issues and pending accounts from other student representatives, had delayed the submission of some bills.

VP and sports secretary also have large outstanding amounts

Vice-President Mostakur Rahman Zahid received Tk 13.40 lakh, but accounts for Tk 12.40 lakh remain outstanding. He said the bills would be submitted within the stipulated period.

Sports Secretary Mosammat Nargis Khatun received Tk 15.71 lakh, of which vouchers for Tk 13.97 lakh have not been submitted. She said the amount relates partly to the ongoing RUCSU Games.

Other office-bearers also have outstanding vouchers, including the Debate and Literature Secretary, Cultural Secretary, Media and Publications Secretary, Women’s Affairs Secretary, Science and Technology Secretary and Environment and Social Welfare Secretary.

Authorities call for proper accounting

Former RUCSU Election Commissioner Professor Mostafa Kamal Akand said office-bearers should settle previous bills before withdrawing additional funds and warned that failing to do so could constitute a financial irregularity.

RUCSU Treasurer Professor Setaur Rahman acknowledged that many vouchers remain outstanding and said representatives had been urged to submit them according to the rules.

RU Vice-Chancellor and RUCSU President Professor Faridul Islam also stressed the importance of maintaining financial transparency and following proper procedures.
