FIFA President Gianni Infantino arrived in Dhaka on Sunday, October 18, for a brief stopover while travelling from Morocco to Bhutan.
Infantino landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around midday. Dhaka was selected as a transit point because no direct flight was available for his journey to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.
Despite his short stay, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) had already made the necessary arrangements to welcome the FIFA chief.
During his time at the airport’s VIP lounge, Infantino was scheduled to meet BFF President Tabith Awal and the federation’s four vice-presidents.
The visit follows an earlier formal meeting between Infantino and Tabith Awal on the sidelines of the FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia.
Although this is only a brief transit stop, the visit provides another opportunity for Bangladesh’s football leadership to engage with the head of world football’s governing body.
