‘Eid-e-Azam’ procession of the World Sunni Movement held in Brahmanbaria despite obstacles.

A ‘Jashne Julus and Joy Procession’ was held in Brahmanbaria carrying messages of religious harmony, freedom of expression and an inclusive society. The procession was organised jointly by the World Sunni Movement and the World Insaniyat Revolution to mark the religious occasion of ‘Eid-e-Azam’.

The procession began at 10am on Monday (August 24) from the historic College Gate area of Brahmanbaria town. A large number of people took part, carrying banners, festoons and colourful flags.

The procession passed through the city’s main roads and ended at Brahmanbaria Railway Station. A brief rally was held there afterward.

Central and local leaders of the World Sunni Movement and the World Insaniyat Revolution addressed the rally. The speakers said that everyone should have the freedom to practise their respective religious beliefs, ideologies and cultures in order to preserve Brahmanbaria’s traditional secular and harmonious environment.

They said, “Brahmanbaria does not belong exclusively to any particular ideology. People of all religious beliefs, faiths and cultures should have the freedom to practise them here.”

The speakers also said that there should be no obstacles to music, theatre, cinema, poetry or other forms of art and cultural expression. They said it is everyone’s responsibility to build a peaceful society based on mutual respect, tolerance and harmony.

At the rally, the speakers stressed the importance of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence instead of religious division, hatred and discrimination. They also called for the preservation of Brahmanbaria’s traditional atmosphere of communal harmony.

According to the organisers, the procession and rally were held peacefully despite various obstacles and opposition. They said the main objective of the event was to convey the message of religious harmony, freedom of expression and an inclusive society to the public.
