Ammar Fails to Account for Tk 18 Lakh from RACSU Fund

Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RACSU) General Secretary (GS) Saluddin Ammar withdrew Tk 23.88 lakh from the union’s fund but submitted bills and vouchers for only Tk 5.49 lakh, leaving Tk 18.39 lakh unaccounted for.

The amount represents nearly 77 percent of the total funds withdrawn by him. The information was found in expenditure documents maintained by the RACSU Treasurer’s Office.

According to the documents, Ammar withdrew the money in seven installments. Of the amount still without supporting documents, Tk 3.02 lakh was withdrawn for setting up admission test booths, Tk 13.77 lakh as the January budget for RACSU members, and Tk 1.60 lakh for official expenses.

Ammar said there were difficulties preparing the bills for the booth expenses because VAT had not been considered in the initial budget. Regarding the Tk 13.77 lakh, he said the expenditure statement of the Science and Technology Affairs Secretary had not yet been received.

RACSU Treasurer Professor Setaur Rahman said bills and vouchers should be submitted immediately after programmes are completed and that officials had been asked to follow the proper procedure.

RACSU President and Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam said all university and RACSU expenditures must be properly documented and that he would look into why the vouchers had not yet been submitted.

Overall, Tk 1.29 crore has been allocated for various programmes of the current RACSU council, while bills and vouchers for Tk 61.50 lakh are still pending. Ammar’s withdrawals account for the largest portion of the undocumented expenditure.
