30 Injured as Madrasa Students, Police Clash in Brahmanbaria

At least 30 people, including madrasa students and police personnel, were injured in a clash at the police lines in Brahmanbaria last night over loud music played during a cultural programme.

The clash broke out around 11:30pm in Paschim Medda after several students of Jamia Darul Arkam Al-Islamia Madrasa reportedly asked organisers to lower the volume, saying they had an examination the following morning.

According to witnesses, the volume was initially reduced but was later increased again, leading to an argument between the students and police. The situation escalated after a group of students entered the police lines. Police allegedly used batons to disperse them, while students threw bricks and stones at police.

The injured were taken to Brahmanbaria 250-bed General Hospital and other hospitals for treatment.

Following the incident, Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf met with madrasa representatives. He described the incident as a misunderstanding and said CCTV footage would be reviewed and action taken against anyone found responsible.

Student representatives have demanded action against those involved, medical treatment and compensation for the injured, and an apology from the police superintendent.
