NEW DELHI — Acclaimed actor and political activist Prakash Raj voiced support on Friday for a change of government in India, while firmly maintaining that any political transformation must be achieved strictly through constitutional processes and elections rather than violent or mass street rebellions.
Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Raj drew a clear line between India’s political landscape and the recent civilian revolts in neighboring South Asian nations. Mass public uprisings in Bangladesh (2024) and Nepal (2025) led to the abrupt overthrow of their respective governments, prompting debates across the region regarding political stability and democratic transitions.
Addressing concerns over violent shifts in power, Raj emphasized India’s distinct democratic institutions and constitutional heritage.
“We want the regime down, and we will bring it down democratically in this country,” Raj stated during his address.
Outlining a long-term electoral strategy to challenge the current administration, the activist noted that the political push against the ruling government would unfold progressively through democratic avenues—spanning upcoming state assembly contests in Uttar Pradesh all the way to the 2029 Lok Sabha general elections.
Raj’s comments reinforce a commitment to democratic participation, underscoring that political opposition inside India must rely on the ballot box and peaceful constitutional advocacy rather than extra-electoral uprisings.
