334 Rounds of Ammunition Recovered from Under-Construction Drain in Bogura

Police have recovered 334 rounds of .303 rifle ammunition from beneath the ground at a construction site in Bogura city.

The ammunition was discovered on Sunday morning while workers were excavating land to construct a master drainage system beside the boundary wall of Bogura Zilla School in Satmatha area.

According to police and eyewitnesses, workers were digging for the drain when one of them noticed a metal object buried in the soil on the southern side of the proposed drain wall. After being informed, police were alerted and personnel from Bogura Sadar Police Station went to the site.

Police later dug up the area and recovered the ammunition at around 11am.

Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ibrahim Ali said a total of 334 rounds of .303 rifle ammunition had been recovered after counting the bullets.

He said the ammunition had been buried underground for a long time and had become unusable.

The police official said initial investigations suggest that the ammunition was not from the 1971 Liberation War. He also ruled out the possibility that the bullets were among those looted from the Sadar police station during the July mass uprising in 2024.

Further examination will be needed to determine when the ammunition was buried and how it came to be there, Ibrahim said.
